How To Speed Up Mozilla Firefox

Buzz this
http://virgintech.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/speedometer0100_ffx.jpgToday i would like to share you friends an easy trick to speed up your Mozilla Firefox. Please note that if you do not have firefox as your default browser, I advise you to get it immediately. It is faster and more efficient than every browser out there. It is obtainable at mozilla.org/firefox.

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

Now restart your browser, if you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

Firefox 4.0 Windows Theme Mockups

Buzz this
Today i would like to share the two mock up versions of Firefox 4.0 for Windows 7 expecting to release by the late 2010. So here goes the screen shots released by Mozilla Foundation;

Version - A - Tab on bottom:

Possibly add a Bookmarks widget as an upfront replacement for the Bookmarks menu/Bookmarks toolbar (option to turn those on would remain).

Version - B - Tab on top:

 The more contentious Tabs-on-Top concept.
Positives
  • Save Vertical Space
  • Efficiency/Remove Visual Complexity - Right now the tabs have to be connected to something. So we are adding an extra visual element for them to connect to.
  • Shorter Mouse Distance to Page Controls
Negatives
  • Breaks Consistency/Familiarity - Moving things confuses existing users.
  • Title is MIA - With the space removed from the titlebar you only get the truncated version in the tab.
  • Longer Mouse Distance to Tabs - Takes longer to mouse to a tab.
  • Lost Space - Sandwiched in between the application icon and the window widgets you lose some space.
Combo Stop/Refresh/Go Button:

Attached at the end of the location bar.
  • Turns green when you start typing.
  • Blends with the location bar when at rest.
  • Turns blue on hover.
  • Turns red when a page is loading.
The proposed iconography is mostly colorless. Adding color to these temporary action driven buttons will make it more obvious something is going on.

Funny: What Is A Browser?

Buzz this

Before you snort at this question, think about the countless number of people who are strangers to this term.

Most of us won’t be able to survive without it, but that does not mean we know what it is.

For most people, the first thing they see when they open up their browser is their search homepage. Who can blame them for mistaking Search Engines as Browsers?

What Google did some time ago was to ask over 50 passersby; randomly picked out from Times Square, New York a seemingly simple question,

“What is a Browser?”

Enjoy the results below and for the record, a browser is NOT a Search Engine.

To help people who are still wondering what a browser is, Google has just created a video that would hopefully clear some clouds.

There’s also a website to tell you which browser you are using and why it matters.
